Le fonds Ian C. Nelson Fund
La Fondation fransaskoise et La Troupe du Jour annoncent la création d’un nouveau fonds auxiliaire, le fonds Ian C. Nelson (Troupe du Jour).
« Ce fonds reconnaît l’importante contribution de Ian C. Nelson, comédien, dramaturge, metteur en scène et traducteur. Son œuvre entière a contribué à faire vivre la culture théâtrale et littéraire fransaskoise », déclare Roger Gauthier, président de La Troupe du Jour.
En 1969, après avoir enseigné un an en France et terminé ses études en bibliothéconomie à McGill, Ian fonde Unithéâtre, petit théâtre universitaire francophone, précurseur de La Troupe du Jour (LTDJ), à l’Université de la Saskatchewan où il travaille comme bibliothécaire responsable des collections en langue française.
En 1985, quelques anciens de Unithéâtre fondent La Troupe du Jour (LTDJ). La Troupe permet à Ian de continuer à mettre en scène du répertoire classique et moderne. Puis il devient conseiller dramaturgique et animateur des ateliers pour de nouveaux textes lors de plusieurs festivals qui rassemblent des artistes théâtraux de l’Ouest. Ian participe au Cercle des écrivains depuis le début et est le premier animateur régulier du cercle.
Le fonds Ian C. Nelson (Troupe du Jour) accordera du financement à des projets d’entretien ou rénovation des espaces de LTDJ, des projets qui contribuent au développement du théâtre francophone en Saskatchewan, par le biais de la création, de la formation, de la production et de la diffusion et des bourses pour le développement artistique en théâtre francophone.

“This fund recognizes the important contribution made by Ian C. Nelson, actor, dramaturge, stage director, and translator. His whole career contributed to keeping the fransaskois theatrical and literary culture alive” says Roger Gauthier, president of La Troupe du Jour.
In 1969, after having taught for a year in France and completed his studies in librarianship at McGill, Ian founded Unithéâtre, a small french-language university theatre, precursor of La Troupe du Jour (LTDJ), at the University of Saskatchewan where he worked as a librarian responsible for the french-language collections.
In 1985, a few former Unithéâtre members founded La Troupe du Jour (LTDJ). La Troupe allowed Ian to continue to produce both classic and modern plays. He then became dramaturgie consultant and workshop facilitator for new texts during many festivals that gathered theatre artists from Western Canada. Ian participated in the Writer’s Circle since its beginning and is the first regular facilitator for the circle.
The Ian C. Nelson fund (Troupe du Jour) will provide financial assistance for building maintenance or renovation projects at LTDJ, projects that contribute to the development of francophone theatre in Saskatchewan via creation, training, production and dissemination and bursaries for the artistic development in francophone theatre.
