SASKATOON, September 14, 2026 – After celebrating its 40th anniversary, La Troupe du Jour is opening a new chapter with its 2026-2027 season, exploring connections across generations, youth and emerging voices under the theme Growing Together. The company continues its work creating and presenting professional French-language theatre in Saskatchewan with five productions that shine a spotlight on youth, emerging artists and stories that bring us together.

Prendre soin de Mom November 14, 2026
Written by Djennie Laguerre, this co-production by Black Theatre Workshop and Roseneath Theatre will be presented in both French and English at the BackStage Stage at Remai Arts Centre, in collaboration with Persephone Theatre.
The play tells the story of 12-year-old Eli, who must care for her mother with the help of her neighbour, Madame Jean. Intended for ages 8 and up, the story explores mental health, resilience, mutual support and connections
across generations.
Je m’identifie November 26-29, 2026
Our community production is written by Michael Bowden, a fransaskois playwright and a member of La Troupe du Jour’s Cercle des écrivains. Bowden has taught school for 26 years, and currently teaches at École Valois in Prince Albert. Je m’identifie is inspired by his personal experience. The story takes place at school, where young teenagers grapple with questions of sexuality and gender identity. The play is insightful, funny and candid. The production will also put emerging Fransaskois theatre talent in the spotlight. Presented in partnership with En toute fierté.

Petite Ondine le 9 janvier 2027
This co-production by Kleine Compagnie and Théâtre la Seizième, written by Anaïs Pellin, reimagines Andersen’s classic tale. Through object theatre, children ages 6 and up meet a Little Mermaid who is determined to chart her own course.
Le Téton Tardif January 22–24, 2027
Written, produced and performed by Caroline Raynaud, this solo show explores body image, female identity, beauty and self-esteem with humour and sensitivity, in a world shaped by media and popular culture.
Tsunami February 18-28, 2027
La Troupe du Jour’s professional production this season is written by Acadian playwright Mélanie Léger. 15-year-old Élodie learns that one of her parents is seriously ill. Seen through the eyes of a teenager, Tsunami explores family, illness and the upheavals that shape us as we grow, with both humour and emotion.
Je m’identifie, Le Téton Tardif and Tsunami will be accessible to English-speaking audiences through English surtitles

Two special presentations kick off the fall
On October 3, 2026, La Troupe du Jour will welcome Panorama des dramaturgies autochtones to the Studio Ian C. Nelson. Co-created by professional Indigenous artists and the Centre des auteurs dramatiques (CEAD), this theatrical presentation introduces audiences to excerpts reflecting the diversity of contemporary Indigenous playwriting. On stage, two Indigenous performers bring the texts to life, accompanied by presenter Alexandre Cadieux. The presentation will be followed by a conversation with the audience
This fall also marks the return of Souffler la veilleuse to communities across Saskatchewan. Written by Arthur Milner, translated into French by Jean Marc Dalpé, directed by Mackenzie Dawson and performed by Bruce McKay, this production explores aging, family relationships and the choices surrounding end-of-life with humour and sensitivity. First presented in Saskatoon in 2025, Souffler la veilleuse will tour from October 15 to November 1, 2026, with confirmed performances in North Battleford, St-Isidore-de-Bellevue, Prince Albert and Regina.
From École de théâtre to the Cercle des écrivains, creativity continues
Registration is now open for École de théâtre, where youth ages 7 to 15 work with professional artists to develop their performance skills, creativity and experience on stage in French, culminating in the creation and presentation of a show in May 2027.
Open to writers at all stages of their practice, from beginners to professionals, the Cercle des écrivains will resume its online activities in October, once again guided by David Baudemont and Madeleine Blais-Dahlem. Those interested can register now or attend the open house on October 7, 2026.
Theatre for students, too
School matinees are planned for Prendre soin de Mom, Je m’identifie, Petite Ondine and Tsunami, giving school groups an opportunity to experience professional theatre in French.
La Troupe du Jour also offers theatre workshops for schools on request. Teachers and schools can contact ecole@latroupedujour.ca to arrange an activity tailored to their group.
A new look online
La Troupe du Jour’s previous season was marked by its 40th anniversary celebrations and a major brand refresh. In May, the company unveiled a new visual identity created by artist Stephanie Kuse. That new identity can now be seen across La Troupe du Jour’s platforms with the launch of a new website developed by Marchildon Media. The website went live on September 12, the day of the 2026-2027 season launch.
