The Ian C. Nelson Fund (LTDJ), administered by the Fondation fransaskoise, supports the long-term development of La Troupe du Jour.
The Fund helps maintain and renew our facilities while supporting the creation, training, production, and presentation of Francophone theatre in Saskatchewan.

Discover the story of Ian C. Nelson
In 1969, after teaching in France for a year and completing his studies in library science at McGill University, Ian founded Unithéâtre, a small Francophone university theatre company and the precursor to La Troupe du Jour (LTDJ), at the University of Saskatchewan, where he worked as the librarian responsible for French-language collections.
In 1985, several former members of Unithéâtre founded La Troupe du Jour. The company gave Ian the opportunity to continue directing both classical and contemporary works. He later became a dramaturgical advisor and led new-play development workshops at several festivals that brought together theatre artists from across Western Canada. Ian was involved with the Cercle des écrivains from its earliest days and became its first regular facilitator.
Ian C. Nelson passed away on February 1, 2024. To honour his memory and legacy, the Fondation fransaskoise and La Troupe du Jour established the Ian C. Nelson Fund (LTDJ) in December 2024. The Fund supports projects to maintain and renovate La Troupe du Jour’s facilities, initiatives that contribute to the development of Francophone theatre in Saskatchewan through creation, training, production, and presentation, as well as grants supporting artistic development in Francophone theatre.
