Élodie is fifteen, lives in Moncton, and dreams of travelling, getting her driver’s licence and gaining her independence. Between an endlessly cheerful Acadian mother and a more reserved English-speaking father, she navigates two languages, two cultures and the upheavals of adolescence. But one evening, over a family dinner, her parents share news that turns her world upside down.
Through Élodie’s eyes, Mélanie Léger’s Tsunami explores family, illness, death, language and the transformations that shape our lives. Written for teens ages 13 and up as well as adults, the play approaches difficult subjects with emotion, humour and hope.

Mélanie Léger
Mélanie Léger is an Acadian playwright, screenwriter, filmmaker and actor from Shediac, New Brunswick, based in Moncton. She writes for theatre, film and television, and several of her plays have been produced for the stage. Her short film Emma fait son cinéma, produced by the National Film Board of Canada, received the TV5 Award at the Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois in 2014, while 54 North, co-directed with Emilie Peltier, was presented at numerous festivals in Canada and abroad. Her published works with Éditions Prise de parole include Tsunami, Je… adieu, Vie d’cheval and Roger Roger. Tsunami received the Prix littéraire Antonine-Maillet-Acadie Vie in 2022.
