SASKATOON, Saskatchewan, January 27, 2026 – La Troupe du Jour presents the third production of its 40th season, Cantate pour légumes, a new Fransaskois play with English surtitles from February 5 to 15, 2026, at Studio 914 in Saskatoon.

Cantate pour légumes is a celebration of the cycle of life. Four “vegetables” are bored at the care home and would like to go on a pilgrimage—to Compostela. A lyrical play with music, Cantate is a reflection on life, aging, mortality, nostalgia, freedom and self-determination.

Written by Fransaskois author Madeleine Blais-Dahlem, Cantate pour légumes is a play in which text and song coexist. The work is notably inspired by the author’s personal experience, particularly her mother’s journey and life in a care home. Musical direction is provided by Helen Pridmore, whose music accompanies the dialogue, bringing depth to the characters and their emotions, punctuated by musical nods. Charlie Peters directs the production, which brings together text, music and movement in a surprising and original form. The cast features professional artists Frédérique Baudemont (the avocado), Gail Enright (the turnip), Carol Greyeyes (the asparagus) and Bruce McKay (the gourd).

As part of its 40th anniversary, which will be celebrated on May 30, 2026, La Troupe du Jour is launching the $40,000 for 40 Years campaign. Donations to the Ian C. Nelson Endowment Fund, administered by the Fondation fransaskoise, will ensure a stable income to support La Troupe’s programming, as well as the artists and artistic creation of the Fransaskoisie.
