Donate to the Ian C. Nelson Fund

Support the long-term development of La Troupe du Jour

The Ian C. Nelson Fund (LTDJ), administered by the Fondation fransaskoise, supports the long-term development of La Troupe du Jour.

It specifically helps support the maintenance and renovation of spaces, as well as the creation, training, production, and promotion of Francophone theatre in Saskatchewan.

"This fund recognizes the significant contribution of Ian C. Nelson, actor, playwright, director, and translator. His entire body of work helped sustain Fransaskois theatrical and literary culture."
Roger Gauthier
President of La Troupe du Jour at the creation of the Fund in January 2024

In 1969, after teaching for a year in France and completing his library science studies at McGill, Ian founded Unithéâtre, a small Francophone university theatre, a precursor to La Troupe du Jour (LTDJ), at the University of Saskatchewan where he worked as a librarian responsible for French-language collections.

In 1985, some Unithéâtre alumni founded La Troupe du Jour. The Troupe allowed Ian to continue directing classical and modern repertoire. He then became a dramaturgical advisor and workshop facilitator for new texts at several festivals that brought together theatre artists from the West. Ian has been involved with the Writers’ Circle since its inception and was its first regular facilitator.

Mr. Ian C. Nelson passed away on February 1, 2024. In his honor, the Fondation fransaskoise and La Troupe du Jour created the Ian C. Nelson Fund (LTDJ) in December 2024. This fund provides financing for projects involving the maintenance or renovation of LTDJ spaces, projects that contribute to the development of Francophone theatre in Saskatchewan through creation, training, production, and dissemination, and scholarships for artistic development in Francophone theatre.
